Podcast over theater in een veranderende wereld

Zes theatermakers, drie festivals, negen dagen van ontmoetingen en gesprekken over de rol van podiumkunsten in een wereld in beweging.

Tijdens de Here and Now Showcase op het Edinburgh Festival, het Nederlands Theater Festival en het TheaterFestival Vlaanderen kwamen zes theatermakers uit Nederland, België en het Verenigd Koninkrijk samen. Als guests in residence bezochten ze voorstellingen, gingen in gesprek met vakgenoten en deelden ze inzichten over hun internationale werkpraktijk.

Samen trokken zij negen dagen op om de festivals te ervaren vanuit hun persoonlijke perspectief. Ze onderzochten de stand van de podiumkunsten in elk land, wisselden indrukken uit en bespraken artistieke en maatschappelijke thema’s over de landsgrenzen heen. Daarbij kregen ze de kans om kritisch te reflecteren op zowel de werking van de festivals als hun eigen makerschap – van schrijven en regisseren tot optreden. Het programma bood hen bovendien de ruimte om hun netwerk uit te breiden en hun artistieke blik te verbreden.

Een centrale vraag die hen bezighield: Wat is de rol van kunst in een steeds verder gepolariseerde wereld?

Lisanne Kniese reisde mee en legde deze bijzondere uitwisseling vast in een inspirerende podcastreeks. De seizoenen – negen afleveringen in totaal – zijn nu te beluisteren. De podcasts zijn Engelstalig.

Seizoen 3

In het derde seizoen komt een nieuwe groep makers samen om hun werk en gedachten over theater te delen. Ze onderzoeken de invloed van ruimte, het vergroten of verkleinen van een performance en de diversiteit van lichamen op het podium.

In dit seizoen leer je zes inspirerende theatermakers kennen, die hun ervaringen en perspectieven delen over kunst in een tijd van verandering.

Aflevering 1: Introductie van de makers – De zes kunstenaars stellen zichzelf voor en delen hun artistieke achtergrond.
Aflevering 2: Over toegankelijkheid – Wat maakt een voorstelling en repetitieproces toegankelijk? De thema’s trigger warnings en content notes komen aan bod, met bijdragen van Meysam Kisomi, Krishna Istha en Mira Bryssinck.
Aflevering 3: De verantwoordelijkheid van grote instituten en de kracht van ‘nee’ zeggen, met Jennifer Jackson, Toni Blackwell en Joshua Serafin.

In dit seizoen komen zes makers uit Nederland, België en het Verenigd Koninkrijk samen in een internationale residentie, waar ze drie festivals bezochten: Edinburgh Festival, Nederlands Theater Festival en Het TheaterFestival Vlaanderen. Ze reflecteren op de voorstellingen die ze zagen, delen hun perspectieven over de podiumkunsten in hun eigen land en onderzoeken de invloed van kunst in een tijd van verandering.

Aflevering 1: Introductie van de makers – Mark Maughan (UK), Maria Magdalena Kozlowska (NL) en Prisca Agnes Nishimwe (BE) stellen zichzelf voor en delen hun artistieke achtergrond.
Aflevering 2: Over de stand van podiumkunsten in verschillende landen – Musia Mwankumi (BE), Hester Stefan Chillingworth (UK) en Mathieu Wijdeven (NL) reflecteren op wat ze zagen en welke artistieke en maatschappelijke thema’s ze belangrijk vonden.
Aflevering 3: Over de invloed van het persoonlijke perspectief van de makers op hun werk en de verschillende manieren waarop ze hun kunstpraktijk inzetten in een veranderende wereld.

Podcast on theatre in a changing world

Six theatre makers, three festivals, nine days of meetings and conversations about the role of performing arts in a world in transition.

During the Here and Now Showcase at the Edinburgh Festival, the Nederlands Theater Festival, and the TheaterFestival Vlaanderen, six theatre makers from the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom came together. As guests in residence, they attended performances, engaged with fellow professionals, and shared insights into their international artistic practices.

Together, they travelled for nine days to experience the festivals from their personal perspectives. They examined the state of the performing arts in each country, exchanged impressions and discussed artistic and social themes across national borders. In the process, they were given the opportunity to critically reflect on the festivals themselves as well as their own creative practices—from writing and directing to performing. Additionally, the residency provided a chance to expand their networks and broaden their artistic outlook.

One of the key questions they explored was: What is the role of art in an increasingly polarised world?

Lisanne Kniese accompanied them and captured this unique exchange in an inspiring podcast series. The seasons – nine episodes in total – are now available. The podcasts are in English.

Season 3

In season three, a new group of makers comes together to share their work and thoughts on theater. They explore the influence of space, the impact of making a performance larger or smaller, and the diversity of bodies on stage.

Episode 3: The responsibility of big institutions and the power of saying ‘no’, with Jennifer Jackson, Toni Blackwell and Joshua Serafin.
