More Dogs ziet de wereld om zich heen steeds kunstmatiger worden en kijkt er gefascineerd naar, maar wel met enige argwaan. In onze verwarring over wat echt en onecht is, gaan we op zoek naar authentieke ervaringen. In Real Boys proberen vijf Pinokkio’s echte jongens te worden. In een geflipt libretto bezingen ze popcultuur, online profilering en laboratoriumvlees maar ook liefde, fake-news en Pinokkio’s queeste. In Real Boys vechten de Pinokkio’s met het ‘fake’ spektakel dat hen omringt. Een frisse en ingenieuze musical over de zoektocht naar echtheid tussen het fake news.
“Het staat als een huis”, schreef Theaterkrant. “Tegelijk een (poging tot) musical over Pinokkio, ‘the making of’ van die musical, commentaar op beide én een swingend popconcert. Al die lagen worden op ingenieuze wijze door elkaar gehusseld: superstrak gechoreografeerd en gespeeld.”
De Theaterjury: “Het onderzoek naar authenticiteit zit op prikkelende wijze in de vorm verweven. Real Boys is tegelijkertijd een concert, een musical, een making-of en commentaar op die making-of. De collectiefleden maken indruk met hun frisse spel, de strakke choreografie en de enorme muzikaliteit die ze aan de dag leggen. Een waar feest om mee te maken.”
More Dogs is een vijfkoppig Belgisch collectief van schrijvers, makers, spelers en muzikanten. Ze studeerden samen drama aan het conservatorium van Antwerpen. Afzonderlijk zijn ze actief in het Belgische theater- en muzieklandschap. In het talentontwikkelingsprogramma Orkater/De Nieuwkomers maakte het vijftal eerder de voorstelling Zeitgeber.

More Dogs sees the world around him becoming more and more artificial and looks at it fascinated, but with some suspicion. In our confusion about what is real and what is not real, we look for authentic experiences. In Real Boys, five Pinocchios try to become real boys. In a crazy libretto they sing about pop culture, online profiling and cultured meat, but also love, fake news and Pinocchio’s quest. In Real Boys, the Pinocchios fight with the “fake” spectacle that surrounds them. A fresh and ingenious musical about the search for authenticity among fake news.
“It is rock solid”, Theaterkrant wrote. “All at the same time, Real Boys is an (attempted) musical about Pinocchio, ’the making of’ of that musical, commentary on both and a swinging pop concert. All those layers are ingeniously mixed up: choreographed and played to perfection.”
The Dutch Theater Jury: “The research into authenticity is interwoven in the form of the play in a stimulating way. Real Boys is simultaneously a concert, a musical, a making-of and commentary on that making-of. The collective members impress with their fresh playing style, the tight choreography and the enormous musicality they display.”
More Dogs is a five-member Belgian collective of writers, makers, players and musicians. They studied drama together at the Antwerp Conservatory. Separately, they are active in Belgian theater and music. The five previously created Zeitgeber in the talent development program Orkater/De Nieuwkomers.
Real Boys is een oprechte poging om te onderzoeken of het mogelijk is om te ontsnappen aan de kunstmatigheid van het bestaan. Dankzij het frisse spel, de strakke choreografie en de enorme muzikaliteit is de voorstelling een waar feest om mee te maken.
Real boys is opnieuw een geslaagde productie uit de onuitputtelijke Orkater/De Nieuwkomers-bron, een overrompelende theaterervaring waar de energie en het spelplezier van afspat.
Dialogen vloeien over in sterk uitgevoerde liedjes waarin muziekstijlen en -referenties smakelijk worden vermengd met precies het juiste vleugje bombast dat hoort bij een musical.
More dogs zorgt met Real Boys voor een uiterst gelaagde en geslaagde voorstelling waarin intelligentie en toegankelijkheid gecombineerd worden op een manier die je slechts zelden ziet.
More Dogs heeft in deze voorstelling net als in hun eerste voorstelling bij De Nieuwkomers een goed ritme te pakken en het laat de muzikaliteit spreken.
